2022 Pack camping at Treasure Valley

Pack 313 will be camping at Treasure Valley Scout Reservation from Friday, October 21 to Sunday, October 23, 2022! Cub Scouts, siblings, and parents may join us for any combination of Friday night, Saturday, and Saturday night. We’ve reserved four campsites so we should have plenty of room.  When we see how many people from each Den are joining us, we’ll decide which site each Den will occupy.  If you have Scouts in more than one Den, sign up with the Den that you’d like to share a site with. If you’re joining us on Saturday, it may be helpful to know that we’ll begin our activities at 9 am.

Each family should plan on bringing whatever camping, cooking, and eating supplies (and food) they need unless they coordinate with other families to share items (like meals, stoves or other larger equipment).  We’ll make time at the October Pack meeting so adults can discuss this.  You may need to carry your gear to your site (which isn’t far but may be farther than with typical car camping).  For meals, we recommend getting your Scout as involved as possible (and on their way to being an independent cook!).  If you’re missing a piece of equipment, ask a Den Leader, and they may know of someone with a spare.

You may arrive at Treasure Valley any time after 4:00 on Friday, but most of us will probably arrive later than that (although hopefully before the 6 pm sunset).  We recommend eating beforehand or bringing a prepared meal. If you arrive Friday night, plan only to carry to the campsite what you need for the night. Food and cooking supplies are best left in your car until the next day. The only cost of the trip is for your food and whatever else you need for your family. Please sign up by October 16 so we can figure out how to partition the 6 Dens into 4 campsites. You should have received the link to do this (and a lot more details) in an email from the Cubmaster. If you didn’t, let him know.

The weekend will include some Den activities (Saturday morning), free time to explore wherever or do whatever you want (Saturday afternoon), and on Saturday night, snack campfires at each campsite (bring snacks!) and then an entertainment campfire for the whole Pack at the East Council Ring. Everyone (children and adults) who wants to will have an opportunity to perform a skit, song, cheer, or tell a joke — so think of some good ideas!

We’ll use the buddy system for all children throughout the weekend. Also, anyone (children or adults) who is staying overnight needs to come to camp with a completed BSA medical form (parts A and B).

2022 Family Camp at Camp Norse

Camp Norse (112 Parting Ways Road, Kingston, MA) is hosting Family Camp this summer, and we’ll be joining them for the June 3-5 (Friday to Sunday) session. This is a camping weekend for the whole family! The cost is $65 per person and includes a group campsite (so plan to bring a tent), all prepared meals (which will be served outside their dining hall), and activities — a rustic version of Club Med.

The camp counselors have a whole bunch of outdoor activities for kids and grown-ups throughout the day. In a typical summer, these include archery, BB guns, an obstacle course, a BMX bike course and (hopefully) a lake waterfront with swimming, boating, and fishing. During the day, you can move from activity to activity whenever you want. If your family hasn’t gone camping before, this is a great introduction — no need to organize food and activities. Bring a swimsuit, but everything else you need for the activities is supplied by the camp.

You can get information on the Family Camp at Camp Norse page. Following the Weekend 1 link will lead you to more information. At the beginning of registration, when you’re asked “# of Campers – Tent Site – with own tent”; this refers to the number of campers, not tents. They’ll place us all in a big group site. When you get to the Group Information page, for “Pack Number & Community”, write “Arlington Pack 313”. For “Are you camping as a family or as a Pack?”, respond “Pack”. When you’re asked about Adventure cards, check “Adventure card holder (In-council Scouts)”. (Our Council has an “Adventure card sharing” arrangement with the Narragansett Council).

If/when you do register, please let me know so our Pack will know who to expect. The camp has some alternatives to tent camping, but they fill up quickly (and are probably will be a bit away from our tent sites).

I hope that you can join us! We’ll talk more about details at upcoming Pack meetings. Please sign up and let your Cubmaster know by May 27.

2021 Pack Camping at Lone Tree

Pack 313 will be camping at Lone Tree Scout Reservation from Friday, October 15 to Sunday, October 17, 2021! Cub Scouts, siblings, and parents may join us for any combination of Friday night, Saturday, and Saturday night. We’ve reserved three campsites. Each site can hold 20 tents, so we should have plenty of room.

Each family should plan on bringing whatever camping, cooking, and eating supplies (and food) they need unless they coordinate with other families to share items (like meals or stoves or other larger equipment).

If you arrive Friday night, plan only to carry to the campsite what you need for the night. Food and cooking supplies are best left in your car until the next day. The only cost of the trip is for your food and whatever else you need for your family. Please sign up by October 10 so we can figure out how to partition the 6 Dens into 3 campsites. You should have received the link to do this (and a lot more details) in an email from the Cubmaster. If you didn’t, let him know.

2021 Family Camp at Camp Norse

Camp Norse (112 Parting Ways Road, Kingston, MA) is hosting Family Camp this summer, and we’ll be joining them for the June 18-20 (Friday to Sunday) session.  This is a camping weekend for the whole family! The cost is $75 per person and includes a group campsite (so plan to bring a tent), all prepared meals (which will be served outside their dining hall), and activities — a rustic version of Club Med.

The camp counselors have a whole bunch of outdoor activities for kids and grown-ups throughout the day. In a typical summer, these include archery, BB guns, an obstacle course, a BMX bike course and a lake waterfront with swimming, boating, and fishing.  During the day, you can move from activity to activity whenever you want.  The camp director is expecting that everyone will wear masks and follow social distancing rules.  If your family hasn’t gone camping before, this is a great introduction — no need to organize food and activities.  Bring a swimsuit, but everything else you need for the activities is supplied by the camp.

You can get information on the Family Camp at Camp Norse page. Following the Weekend 2 link will lead you to more information. At the beginning of registration, when you’re asked “How many?”; this refers to campers, not tents. Most of us will be using the “Tent Site – with own tent” option, and they’ll place us all in a big group site. When you get to the Group Information page, for “Pack Number & Community”, write “Arlington Pack 313”. For “Are you camping as a family or as a Pack?”, respond “Pack”. You also need to check the “Non-Adventure Card Holder (Out of Council Scouts) – N participants” box (where N is the number of campers in your family). This is because Pack 313 is in a different Council, so none of us have Adventure Cards from the Council that runs Camp Norse. The rest of the registration will be specific to your family. If/when you do register, please let me know so our Pack will know who to expect. The camp has some alternatives to tent camping, but they fill up quickly (and are probably will be a bit away from our tent sites).

I hope that you can join us! We’ll talk more about details at upcoming Pack meetings. The registration deadline is June 1.

2020 Family Camp at Camp Norse (cancelled)

We’ll be going to Camp Norse on the weekend of June 12 – 14, 2020 for Family Camp Session 2! All Pack 313 families are invited (including younger and older siblings), and Pack families can also invite other families that they think would enjoy the Cub Scout camping experience.

In contrast to Pack camping at Lone Tree, this Family Camping weekend includes food (with meals in the dining hall) and great full-time staff to keep us all entertained. Everyone who registers can participate in all activities, although younger siblings may need parental help for some of them.

You can get information and register here: http://www.narragansettbsa.org/event/2522900 Camp Norse needs participants to register by June 5 at the latest. When you get to the Group Information page, for “Pack Number & Community”, write “Arlington Pack 313”. The rest of the registration will be specific to your family. If/when you do register, please let me know so our Pack will know who to expect. The camp has some alternatives to tent camping, but they fill up quickly (and are probably will be a bit away from our tent sites).
